(Classic) Since I Left You by The Avalanches (2000)

Kind of Like: LCD Soundsystem, Panda Bear, Air France
Genres: Electronica, Hip-Hop
Preview: Myspace

When writing any sort of article/paper, you always start off with a hook right?  A sentence or two that catches the attention; this is something that has been pounded in our heads since elementary school.  Well, I have the perfect hook for these guys, that will especially boggle the vinyl collectors out there.  I kinda ruined it though by going on like this, but here goes: this album was assembled from approximately 3500 vinyl samples.  I'm sure they used certain records for several samples, but that still is a buttload of records to go through.  Basically they did cool mash-ups before that dude named Girl Talk came along.  This was the Avalanches debut album as a electronica/dance/hip-hop outfit (they were a noise punk band prior to this), and it was such a huge success for them.  I'm sure you've seen the video for "Frontier Psychiatrist" right?

So, I decided to throw this classic up here because I am always on the lookout for their next album.  Like Dre's Detox, there are a lot rumors about it and it keeps getting pushed back.  At least Detox has had some tracks from it that have been released/leaked.  The Avalanches' untitled next album was supposed to come out this year, but now it appears that it will get a 2012 release, but the lead track/single will be released this year.  Until then, listen to this and read up on their wiki because their origins are kinda interesting.
