The Autonomics

Kind of like: The Strokes, Cage the Elephant, White Denim
Genres: Garage, Indie Rock, Brit Rock
Preview: Bandcamp

The Autonomics are a Portland based 3 piece rock and roll group that takes a very straightforward approach to the garage infused brit rock sound ever so popularized in the early 2000s by groups like The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand and The White Stripes. Their arrangement have a particular flow and tone that suits the style perfectly. These guys are good friends of mine and our bands have shared many bills together in the last year since both moving to Portland. Below are both DIY EPs released last year, available for free from bandcamp, and I can't wait till these guys release a full length album.

Pulled Apart By Horses by Pulled Apart By Horses

Kind of like: The Jesus Lizzard, Young Widows, Les Savy Fav
Genres: Rock and Roll, Art-Punk
Preview:

"Pulled Apart By Horses’ incendiary live shows have cost them teeth, chunks of flesh and affordable insurance premiums. They’ve also landed them with one peculiar headache. The Leeds screech-lords’ trail of messy chaos and their noble, reckless dedication to the cause has led to them inheriting the same ‘best live band in Britain’ tag that once plagued Gallows (though unlike Carter and the boys, PABH come splattered with healthy dollops of heart and humour)."
-Dan Martin, NME.com (read the full review here)

This album, to me, brings to light the wicked fun and facemelting riffs of a quality Rock and Roll band. With songs titled "Back To The Fuck Yeah" (preview this track above), "I Punched A Lion In The Throat" and "Meat Balloon", this UK based quartet combine energetic rock and roll with a sense of humor. High on my list of bands to see live.

3 Song Demo by Dark Country

Kind of like: Hot Water Music, Red Fang, a punk version of older ETID
Genres: Hardcore Punk, Rock and Roll
Preview: Bandcamp

Hi. I'm new here. Dark Country is a band I recently found in my hometown of Portland, Oregon. This band destroys live and I encourage everyone to at least check out their bandcamp page. All three songs are available for free download and very worth the effort and time. And remember; "This is....Dark Country!"
