Tacoma, WA, representttt! This debut EP is the product of six months of hard work down in the basement of their house. I've been yearning for some hard psychedelic/stoner rock as of late, and these guys pretty much hit the spot. Here's a recent interview with the band in which they discuss this EP, Slayer, and the idea that their music sounds like the soundtrack to the apocalypse...if you were getting drunk at the apocalypse.

Been meaning to post these guys after catching them a week or two ago.  They played with Converge, Loma Prieta, and The Armed.  I had no idea who these guys were walking into the show, but after seeing them I am very excited about them.  They put on a great punk set and have a sound that not many people appreciate now of days.  They play some blistering, fast, and heavy rock and roll.  They just put out a 7" with Alternative Tentacles Records, that is nowhere to be found on the interwebs yet as a download.  However, they have plans to put out another full length and you can check out their 2010 effort, Loose Control, below.

You may remember Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light I, from last year.  That was one of my favorite albums of last year.  I was wondering if the "I" at the end implied there would be more to come, and looky here.  This leaked a while ago; I saw Music As Heroin featured this.  But, this is my first go at listening to it. I am only a minute into the first song and can tell this is going to be another stripped-down, laid-back, introverted adventure (introverted adventure? LOL).  As a listener, you really get to bask in the tones of the instruments.  Compared to their earlier works of drone metal, Angels I and II is more like being in a desert.  A dark, heavy, experimental desert.  Perhaps one of Dali's deserts?

The psychedlic imagery implied through both the name of the band and the title of the album translates beautifully in a cohesive, textured, groovey-as-all-hell, powerful piece of stoner rock goodness. Fuck ya Austia!

Heritage by Opeth

Swedish death metal icons, Opeth, Return with their 10th studio album in 14 years. Heritage employs a very progressive and psychedelic feel and far less of the death metal influence they are typically known for. For those that aren't familiar with Opeth, traditionally they are known for 8-12 min epics that create a story with acts and a plot arc musically more so than "standard" songwriting would dictate. For fans of Opeth, Heritage brings back the dynamics and feel from Damnation and improve on it tenfold. This is a very unique record by a hugely influential and amazing band. Highly recommended.
